Of course, doesn't everyone keep it?!?!  Can someone remind me when exactly I wore a size 7???

3. Is there a special place you like to go when you're happy, sad, stressed, etc.?
        Happy.. with my family
Sad/Stressed.. off by myself (I'm not good company)

4. If you have kids, do they sleep with you? If you don't have kids...will you let your kids sleep with you when/if you have them?
Not since they were wee ones... really, do you want to share a bed with three (3) teenagers!?!?

5. Do you watch late night TV?
Yes, unfortunately.  It seems we are addicted to Nightline, which doesn't come on until 11:35 PM EST.

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

Print

In my life this week...
... This can be a loaded question!  We enjoyed our homeschool bowling league on Monday, Boy Scouts on Tuesday, youth group on Wednesday a family fun dinner at our local pizzeria, 2 boys got haircuts (can you say AMEN!), and planted 2/3 of my spring garden on Thursday.

 In our homeschool this week...
... US History is going well!  The teens are learning about the events which occurred during 1880-1889 under Presidents Arthur and Cleveland
... My 9th grader is almost done with his World Geography program.  Since he finished early, he will be working on Georgia State History to complete this school year.
... My parents bought an ACT/SAT Prep Course through HSLDA for my 11th graders, but we haven't had time to begin.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...
... The teens are going to a Biblical Worldview Conference on Friday.  This is being led by students from Bryan Christian College and their worldview initiative team.  Should be a wonderful learning experience!

My favorite thing this week was...
... getting my spring garden planted.  I'm trying something new and added strawberries to the raised-bed garden.

What's working not working for us...
... Vocabulary from Classical Roots.  For some reason, my 9th and 10th grader are having such a hard time with the tests which come with the program.  I'm not sure the best way to deal with this.  I'm not completely sure they are really learning the words, since I'm not seeing it in their written work.  : (

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...
... when is enough, enough?  I know we are doing more than enough, so why do I feel the need to add "more"?  ** Sigh**

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...

Guest Post: Rebecca from Mom's Mustard Seeds

Print
Have you ever come across a post that just spoke to you?  Today's post from Rebecca did just that.  She shares what it means to surrender to God in the most meaningful way.  She has graciously allowed me to share her thoughts with you today on my blog.  Read on...

Mustard Seed Planting: Surrender

Last week, I discussed Worship on Mustard Seed Planting, with the desire to post about Surrender this week.  Surrender was the last topic Linda Dillow spoke about during the retreat I attended for an Un/Divided heart. Surrender that allows us to truly worship and place God first in our lives.

Surrender.  imagine Abraham.  He desired a child and after many years, in his old age...God Blesses him with Isaac.  Then, God (does the unthinkable) tells Abraham to take Isaac and sacrifice him.

Abraham responds.

He chops wood.  (why did he not have his servants chop the wood).

He walks 50 miles with his son to the mount.  Isaac....carrying the wood on his back.

The boy, so happy to be old enough to go with his Dad, probably chatting and running most of the way, basking in the presence of his Father...on this BIG BOY trip!

Abraham...walking 50 miles.  His son...the wood, the burden upon his back......

The boy...asks his Father where the lamb is for the sacrifice.

Abraham...never faltering...God will provide.

Father, binding son, raising his hand with knife, prepared to do as God has asked.

Surrender.

The Father, Our Father:  STOP ABRAHAM....

The Lamb, over on the side of the mount...it stands.  It was there....unnoticed....to be the sacrifice.

Do you see God?  He is walking with his Son, Jesus...to the Alter.  His son, carrying the cross, the burden on his back.  Like the lamb stuck in the brush...he is there, has been there since before time.

All he asks.....is that we surrender.

The pain, the hurt, the joys of this world, everything needs to be surrendered.  Nothing held back, nothing held in front of our Father.

Job1: 20-21

Will you join me (Rebecca) and Jennifer Janes as we Plant seeds of Faith?  Seeds that grow as tall as the Mustard Plant...when watered with God's love, mercy and grace?  Seeds that allow us to lay it all down, and surrender it all to the one who wants it.  He wants all of the best and the worst so he can give us the Glory he designed us for...for His glory...and for a true and loving relationship!

Rebecca can be found sharing her thoughts at Mom's Mustard Seeds.  Visit her and be blessed!

Asian Chicken

Print

Prep time: 10 minutes     Total: 25 minutes
Servings:    4 servings (2 cups each)

Ingredients:

8     oz angel hair pasta, uncooked
2     cups broccoli florets (both fresh and frozen work well)
1     lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into thin strips
1/2  c. Kraft Asian toasted Sesame dressing
2     TBSP soy sauce
1/4  tsp. each ground ginger, garlic powder, crushed red pepper
1/3  c. chopped dry roasted peanuts (optional)

Directions:
1.  Cook pasta as directed on package, adding broccoli to the boiling water for the last 3 minutes of the pasta cooking time.

2.  Meanwhile, spray large nonstick skillet with cooking spray; heat on medium-high heat. Add chicken; cook 6-8 minutes or until cooked through, stirring and cutting into bite-sized pieces.  Stir in dressing, soy sauce, ginger, garlic and crushed red pepper; cook 1 minute, stirring occasionally.

3.  Drain pasta mixture; place in large bowl. Add chicken mixture; mix lightly. Spoon evenly into 4 serving bowls; sprinkle with the peanuts.

Note: For a family of 5, I double this recipe using 6 cups broccoli and 2 lbs of chicken.

Substitute: Use whatever vegetables you have on hand, such as snow peas, sliced bell peppers, sliced carrots or chopped red onions with or  instead of the broccoli.

Enjoy!

Blessings,
Ellen
