1 Peter 3.1-7 Bible Study

Print

This week's lesson revolved around submission and beauty.  What caught me was Peter's description of a beautiful wife.

"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes.  Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."

~ 1 Peter 3.3-4

Sue Edwards asked these questions....

When do you feel beautiful?  What do you think has influenced this assessment of yourself?

Nothing like hitting to the heart of low self-esteem / self-confidence.  Brutal honesty doesn't allow me to answer positively.  Why?  Because I believe the culture in what is considered beautful, not what God considers beautiful.  Unfortunately, it seems easier to believe the world.

How might your life change if you adopted God's assessment of your beauty and ignored man's?

I need to focus on God's truths about me, not the world's.  How?  By immersing myself in His word and repeating it over and over again until my mind and heart believe.

If you are following along in 1 Peter, what is God showing you?

Blessings,

     Ellen

  4. Good post! I always think about God and David. He tells us in His word that He looks upon man's heart and not his appearance. That is how I try to define true beauty...Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  5. I agree that it can be very hard to trust in God's vision of beauty. What scares me the most is that sometimes I feel like one person fighting the world when it comes to teaching my daughter about what beauty is.

  6. What a wonderful reminder that God looks at the heart and sees us as His beautiful daughters.

  7. Ellen, So true! God's ways are not our ways...he sees the heart....and the world only sees the outside. Thank you for linking up and sharing this with me today!

  8. It's important to remember that God knows true beauty. He created beauty. The world doesn't always get it right. Thank you for this reminder that we need to have the kind of beauty that God likes.

  9. I struggle to remain grounded in the Truth of His Word too. It is so easy to get caught up in what the world calls success and beauty. Thank you for the reminder to stay grounded in His Word!

  10. I just love that verse (after I studied a bit). I am not someone people would called "quiet" and I always struggled thinking it meant I was to be seen, not heard. But after studying it I found quiet was the word to describe a quiet neighborhood, peaceful. A light-bulb moment for me. I can be at rest with the Lord and that affects my attitude. A peaceful, not critical not complainy attitude is beautiful in deed. :)

    Thanks for sharing.
