The Final Summit... a book review

Print

What do you do when you don’t know what to do?

How would you answer the following question? "What does humanity need to do, individually and collectively, to restore itself to the pathway toward successful civilization?"  What if you had advisors from all of history to help you answer this puzzle?  Who would you choose to enlighten you on the "pathway" and its restoration?

At age 74, David Ponder is at a loss.  His beloved wife and partner had died 18 months ago in her sleep and he no longer knows what to do with himself or his time.  What do you do when you don't kow what to do?  You cry out to God!

Many years earlier after being fired from a local hardware store, David was chosen by God to travel back in time and meet great people from the past.  Within an earthly time period of 20 minutes, he  has spent time with 7 strong, historical figures including President Abraham Lincoln and Anne Frank.  The knowledge they imparted, known as the Seven Decisions, dramatically change his life.  By living out these principles, he and his wife became successful in real estate and development until David makes a bad decision - to live beyond their means and borrow money.  As they file bankruptcy and reorder their lives, he again chooses to build his life on the Seven Decisions.  As they enjoy a "rags to riches to rags to riches" fairy tale life, they share their knowlege and bless others along the way.

* a must read *

Now, the archangel Gabriel comes to him a second time.  David assumes his life is ending and will be taken to his wife, but this is not the case.  Gabriel has come to bring David to lead a world-changing summit conference; one that will decide the fate of our world.  Their job is to answer the question, "What does humanity need to do, individually and collectively, to restore itself to the pathway toward successful civilization?"

* a life changer *

With the help and advisement of many great men and women from history, David leads the summit to save humanity.  The group only has 5 chances to answer the question - and that answer is only two words long.  David is allowed to seek counsel from  5 other "travelers" through history.  Do they come up with the correct answer?  Does it take all 5 chances?  Can they save humanity before time runs out?

* masterpiece work of fiction *

Andy Andrews has written a thoughtful, suspenseful novel and brought many historical characters to life.  His knowledge of history and scripture is woven throughout the story.  The Seven Decisions and the discussions over the question will have you question yourself and your own life.  Can we all learn "what to do when we don't know what to do?"  The Final Summit will have you reflecting on your own life and will challenge you (and me) to make a difference in our sphere of influence.

  4. The Final Summit is a self-help parable that seeks to answer the question: "What does humanity need to do, individually and collectively, to restore itself to the pathway toward successful civilization?" It attempts to do so through a fictional character who finds himself at a heavenly "summit" of time "travelers" who have been brought there by the Archangel Gabriel. Most of the "travelers" are famous people who are known for great accomplishments, except for the hero of our story, a normal man who found wealth and prosperity by learning life secrets through his previous time travels.
    Unfortunately, the answers these characters come up with to the question are generally trite and obvious, such as "find hope" or "seek wisdom." I was groaning at most of these answers, thinking, "how dumb can these famous people be?" when, at each answer, they smugly assumed they had it "right."
