The Candidate... a book review

The Candidate

Available: October 4, 2016
Thomas Nelson Fiction, Nashville
ISBN: 9780718037680
Mystery / Suspense / Thriller / Crime drama

Lis Wiehl has crafted a story so real it could be our next front page news!  With the USA currently at the end of a presidential election year (2016), it was a riveting read!  The Candidate shows not only the rigors of the campaign trail, but also demonstrates the lengths at which people will go to win.

Erica Sparks – Seasoned investigative reporter with secrets of her own

Senator Mike and Mrs. Celeste Ortiz – presidential candidate, former POW

Senator Lucy Winters – presidential candidate

Governor Fred and Mrs. Judy Buchanan – presidential candidate

As Erica begins her “Candidates at Home segment” she realizes there is a true story behind the one being shared.  As Erica begins her investigation and travels the globe, “everyone material to her probe ends up dead. With each death, her foreboding grows. Is she next? And can she find out in time if the country's beloved candidate is what he seems . . . or a threat to national security?” (publisher’s description).

Thank you Lis for another amazing, page-turner, “can’t put down” novel!

If you are like me, you find intriguing books that have begun 1-3 books ago.  Catching Heat is the third book by Janice Cantore in the Cold Case Justice series.  Although I did not read the first two books (Drawing Fire and Burning Proof), I was able to pick up on the storyline between Abby Hart and Luke Murphy.  Janice seamlessly wove the storyline of the Triple Seven Fire into this book so I did not feel like I was "missing" parts of the story.  As a retired police officer, Janice Cantore brings realism to the numerous storylines within the book.

My rating: B+             3 out of 5 stars
