Deny self and follow Jesus. Luke 9

Print

Today's reading is Luke 9.  If you are reading along with me, what is God showing you?

Scripture:
Luke 9.23   "The He (Jesus) said to them all: 'If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.'"

Observation:
To be a follower of Jesus Christ, you need to deny yourself in wanting your own way, take up your cross by identifying with Christ's message, and follow Jesus, his life and commands.

Application:
I am not to only talk about Jesus, I'm to imitate His life through my words and actions.  I also need to deny my desires (use of time, money, etc) and align my decisions with God's Word and His direction for me.  I know I don't 'take up my cross' on a daily basis.  God has been working with me over my "control" issues.  I am to FOLLOW... not lead.  God is God, and I am not.

Prayer:
Father... thank you for this reminder that You are ultimately in control over my life.  Help me to seek Your direction in everything I do.  Amen

Blessings,

     Ellen
